THE DIRTY BIRDER

Out the Nest.

It all begins with an encounter. On a cold, windy day in 2021 at a local state park, I heard a splash in the water beside me. I looked over to see a coat of white and brown feathers urgently flapping off droplets of water to take flight. It was an osprey catching a bass.

And just like that… I was hooked.

Sometimes that is all it takes to realize that there is wondrous things happening all around us. Most of the time in our own back yards. After that, I bought my first telephoto lens, borrowed a canoe, and took my uninsured camera out multiple times to the middle of a lake. Not the smartest of ideas, and I definitely didn't get the best photos, but it was the start of my deep dark hole of a journey into the world of birding.

Now, going into my third year of inconsistent yet more than not obsessive birding, I have gotten photos of many of Pennsylvanias’ native species. Hoping to display the brilliance of these birds to hopefully inspire more of you to get out into nature and see these things first hand.
